Most of us prove woefully uninformed when it comes to our cars. Don’t worry though, it takes too long to learn that much information except in bits and pieces. However, by learning a little bit at a time you can inform yourself on the basics of how your car runs. To that end, we’ve put together a brief overview of your timing belt and what it does.
What it does:
The timing belt connects the camshaft and the crankshaft. It ensures that the valves in the engine open and close when they should.
What happens if it breaks?
If your timing belt breaks, it could cause the pistons to hit the valves and cause expensive damage to your engine. Though manufacturers recommendations differ, most timing belts need to get changed out every 60,000 miles or 5 years.
Hopefully now you feel a little bit closer to understanding how your vehicle works. If you require timing belt change & replacement, or almost any other auto services, European Plus can help. To find out more, come by our shop or give us a call at (609) 737-7226.
